To Whom It May Concern,

As the co-founder and Chairman of H.O.H.T., and former Chairman of the Lake Norman Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors, I have been a frequent speaker, presenter, and motivational speaker for over 20 years. So, I always look forward to experiencing other great speakers.

As a former collegiate football player and coach, both at the high school and college level, J.D. Haglan brings a sense of years of experience and accomplishment through his presence (he really does look the part). As he progresses in the presentation, he is easily at home in pointing to his flaws as well as his strengths in making important points. We are both Cancer survivors, which generally makes an audience sit up and listen, as we have skirted our own mortality.

J.D. recently presented our “Speaking Skills” seminar at the Lake Norman Chamber of Commerce to applicants of our job bank. It was very well received!

If your goal is an impactful keynote speaker, I would encourage you to consider J.D. Haglan.

Sincerely,

Joe Carbon

Mr. Haglan,

I wanted to write and thank you for sharing your journey with the Seniors and parents this evening.  What an inspiration you are!!!  My heart ached for the sickness and pain you have endured!

My son was given an award on awards night for “overcoming obstacles”…This award meant the world to me.  As a Mother, I know the many obstacles he has overcome.  These obstacles have not only strengthened him, but made him a very humble child of God!

Your journey has been full of obstacles, I’m sure.  To hear you tell the teens to turn to God instead of away from God in times of trouble was PRICELESS!  The guidance and direction you shared tonight will stick with these teens for a lifetime.  Thank you Again!

May God Bless and keep you.  May HE give you strength, and may you continue to share your story to encourage others!

KH

I have had the pleasure of listening to JD speak to a variety of high school classes, and he always does an excellent job! He comes in prepared and ready to inspire! He motivates the students to believe in themselves, to work harder even when they think they can’t, and to understand that life is a gift that should not be wasted. As an adult listening to JD, I take away valuable nuggets of information that ring true to my life, and my students take away even more. JD understands what is important in life and what makes each individual valuable. He shares his own experiences in order to teach those “bigger picture” moments, and when he finishes his story, you’re left with more hope and determination than when he started. I’m blessed to know him and thankful that I get to hear his story.

Coach Haglan for years has talked to my Sports in Literature classes. These days are by far the most inspirational of the year. His story is gripping, and the students learn life lessons that will affect them forever. My class does a service project every year for a cancer cause, and Coach Haglan’s talk brings the reality of the disease home. I consider Coach Haglan a friend whose story needs to be told often.

Coach Haglan’s talk really opened my eyes. It has made an impact on my life and I will never think of cancer in the same way. He was fully able to capture my attention and made me realize the different types of struggles that cancer patients have to overcome. His story has inspired me greatly because if he can make it through what he went through, theres nothing in life that I shouldn’t be able to overcome.

I really enjoyed the speaking Mr. Haglan did during our class. The presentation was great and all of the things that he had to go through are unreal. He did an amazing job giving his life story and explaining what he went through. I learned some things from his speech and my whole class and I appreciate what you do.

I had the pleasure of hearing Coach Haglan speak in my Sports in Literature class. He gave a really touching speech that hit home. He taught me that even at your lowest point you can still fight through any battle, and you should never give up.

Mr. Haglan’s speech was very inspirational and one that needs to be heard. He talks of his battle with cancer and how his life has been changed physically and mentally because of it. I think that if anyone has a chance to listen to it, they definitely should take the opportunity. I’m glad I was able to hear it myself and would listen to it again if I’m able to.

I really enjoyed listening to Mr.Haglan speak about his battle about cancer. Mr.Haglan speech was very encouraging. He spoke about the problems that he had during his cancer battle. He made me realize that I can always keep pushing. Mr. Haglan talked about how you can really do more than what you think you can do. Also, I enjoyed hearing him talk about how he kept his hope up during his battle. I would love for Mr.Haglan speak to me again.

    Coach Haglan,

The many different stories I have heard about cancer and all of the problems people have been through have amazed and inspired me. When Coach Haglan had come and talked about all of his issues about how he suffered really made me think of my life and how much I need to value it. The thing that really hit me was the issue that he had that he could never tell his kids about his cancer, many things could have happened before they tell him like he could have died and they never knew why until after. Also the fact that it was so rare of him to get it and that the chances he had to lived and stayed positive thought it all.

I really enjoyed the speech that Coach Haglan gave to my Sports in Literature class this semester. It was very inspiring hearing what he went through and how he still battled everyday. Hearing him speak really puts in perspective how cancer can affect everyone at any moment no matter what they do. I am very appreciative that I got to hear this speech.

Coach Haglan’s speech was a real eye opener about how easily life can change. How perfectly healthy people can be affected by cancer at any moment and the struggle that the people with cancer have to face every day. His speech inspired me to live my life to the fullest at all times.

    Coach Haglan,
Thank you so much for coming to Mr. Smiths third block class to speak to us about your horrific battle with cancer. After listening to what you had to say, not only did it open my eyes but it was so motivational. Knowing how horrible it was for you everyday during that time and knowing that you still woke up everyday with a smile on your face truly amazes me. Your heartwarming words that you spoke can honestly change someones life— making a person want to continue his/her life no matter what it is that they are going through. I am so honored that you were able to come and share this crazy story with our class and hope you continue to share it for the next few years, it is a story not many people should miss out on hearing.
    Thank you so much!
